Bill Clancy Retiring as Referee to accept a position as the Boxing Commissioner for Virginia
 

 

(MARCH 15) After 41 years and 1,206 fights as a referee, Bill Clancy has retired as the third man in the ring and is the new Regulatory Operations Administrator for the Virginia Professional Boxing, MMA & Wrestling Commission. Bill refereed his final show in Maryland at Live Casino on February 18 and was celebrated for his long service with a standing ovation from the crowd of 3,500. Bill will be moving from his home in North Carolina to Virginia and started his new post on Friday, March 10.

 Bill has refereed 34 World Title fights such as Manny Pacquiao vs Jorge Julio, Roy Jones Jr. vs Glen Johnson, Jean Pascal vs Badou Jack, Antonio Tarver vs Glen Johnson, Markus Beyer vs Danny Green #1, Jessica McCaskill vs Anahi Sanchez, Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams, Andre Dirrell vs Jose Uzcategui to name a few. Bill has refereed 92 current or former World Champions such as Mike Tyson in his 50th and final victory of his career and his 6th fastest KO, Larry Holmes, James "Bonecrusher" Smith, Tim Witherspoon, Greg Page, James Toney, Hector "Macho" Camacho, Oleksander Usyk, Trevor Bryan, Daniel Dubois, Yordenis Ugas, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Lamont Peterson, Roman Martinez, Paulie Malignaggi, Jermaine Taylor and many, many more.

Bill has been inducted as a referee into the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame in April of 2016, the Boxing Legends Hall of Fame inagural class as a referee in June of 2016, the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame as a referee in July 2019 and the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a referee in September 2022. Bill is currently on the Board of Directors for the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame.
