While his involvement in boxing spanned more than 25 years, Hodge spent his time outside the ring working with young athletes. His list of honors and national appointments is long and varied. Hodge is generally viewed as a skillful behind-the-scenes worker whose energy and patience knew no bounds.
He attended Gardner Webb College and retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He and his wife Lucy had a son and two daughters.
Hodge passed away December 20, 1996.
